Our desire is to help prevent pain and injury in dogs and cats. We also see patients who have already experienced injuries or are needing post-surgical pain management & rehabilitation. We often see patients for chronic pain management or cancer pain.

Pain Prevention:

Pain can be prevented with early assessment of the young dog or cat through soundness examinations and breed consultations to provide awareness of the potential orthopedic and neurologic conditions seen in your breed of pet. If problems are discovered, we can work with you to address them early in your pets’ life. Conditioning for your active dog will also help prevent pain.

Pre-Emptive Pain Management:

Did you know if pain medication is given BEFORE a surgery is performed your pet will hurt much less AFTER the surgery, need less post-operative pain medicine and recover more quickly from the procedure performed? Epidurals, Pre-Anesthetics that also control pain, local anesthesia blocks and intra-articular (joint) blocks are some examples you might discuss with your veterinary surgeon. We often work with dogs and cats to help with weight loss and to increase muscle strength and tone prior to a surgical procedure.

Post-Operative or Post-Trauma Pain Management:

In humans it has been shown that pain medications given routinely throughout the first several days after surgery and/or trauma encourage the patient to recover more quickly and return to function faster. It appears to be the same with our beloved pets. Please discuss this with your veterinary surgeon performing the operation.

Chronic Pain Management:

Dogs and cats experience similar conditions to those seen in humans causing chronic pain. These may include neck and back pain, arthritis of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, feet, hips (Hip Dysplasia), back, hocks or knees. Chronic muscle pain is very common. We also share myopathies (causing muscle pain) and neuropathies (causing nerve pain) with our animal friends. TMJ (jaw) pain, thrombotic conditions (clots or emboli), ear pain from chronic infections, headaches, sinus pain and other conditions are common in animals. We offer a combination of therapeutic modalities to find the best balance bringing the most relief for your pet. This may include physical therapy/rehabilitation, acupuncture, medical management and/or chiropractic care. We also teach you exercises and massage techniques to use daily at home with your pet.

Cancer Pain Management:

Dogs and cats with cancer often live a quality life for quite some time with adequate pain management included as a part of their daily life.
