- Dull Hair coat
- Decreased Activity -
- Lagging behind on walks
- Behavioral and Personality Changes
- Difficulty rising from a resting position
- Pacing, Restlessness, Biting,
- Wide-Eyed Appearance
- Slow to Sit or Lay Down
- Reluctance to Jump in the Car
- Limping
- Avoidance of Stairs
- Gait Changes
- Muscle Atrophy (loss)
- Hesitation to Move the
- Neck Weakness
Panting (Increase in respiration)

- Refusing to Work
- Diarrhea
- Depressed Appetite
- Running with “Bunny Hops”
- Pale Gums
- Change in Sleep Patterns
- Unusual Crying or Whining - or yelping when touched
- Weight Loss
- Hiding
- Sitting with one or both Knees (Stifles) Turned Out
- Licking, Chewing, Scratching
- Changes in Posture:
Elbow Calluses
- Arched Back, Head Lowered or Tilted
- Lack of a Full Body Shake
- Lack of a Full Yawn
- Drooping Tail

Animals often hide their pain. Dogs and cats may be described as getting “old” and “slowing down” when actually they are painful.
